First week at UNI!! Mon-Sun 2-8 March

jeez - time fly by I'd tell ya...

.
the first week with lectures is already over... how did that happen??
.
Well, as with everything else - time goes quickly, but a lot of things happen too! (so it sort of evens out)

.
Monday:
.
Will probably be the busiest day of my week,
.
9-10am Clinical Exercise Physiology
10-12am Food Science 2
1-2pm Clinical Exercise Physiology

ClinExPh seems to be interesting, and the lady lecturing it, Robin, seems good too. It'll really be fun to get into some of the subjects we'll be covering during the semester in this course.

Food Science 2 - hmmm.... Well, it might be dull in the beginning, but in the end it'll shapen up - interesting-vise anyway. But we'll see if I make it to the end - 'cause the lecturer, Surinder, well, she told me she didn't want me in her class... Not a nice start...

I went up to her in the ten minute break to introduce myself and to tell her that I'm only here for one semester, that I maybe can't spell everything right but I sure can follow - well, she didn't give me an opportunity to say that, she cut me short straight away - pointing and saying:

she: "Yes! I know you! I didn't want you in this class! I still don't!"
me: "umm... oh... eehh.."
she: "No 'cause you haven't studied Food Science 1 and Nutrition 1, and you need to have those to get into this class!"

oops, not getting along with this teacher...

me: "Well, I've studied one and a half year in Gothenburg (that's more than all the other people in this room, I thought), and I got permission to be in this class"
she: "So have you been given credits for the courses you've taken before?!"

all this time her eagle-look is burying itself into me, trying to make me shrink into my shoes - which would be sort of difficult, considering that I'm much taller than she is

me: "Well, I don't know if I've been given credits for that, I'm not sure, I just know that I've got permission to be here"
she: "Well not from ME!"

aieaieaie...

me: "hmmm..."
she: "When I saw your name on the list I said straight away that I didn't want you here, but I guess it was too late - but next year, no one, NO ONE (said with a Gollum-kind-of-voice) gets into this class without having taken the forementioned courses!!!"

yikes..

she: "So, well, I'll see how you go on now"

eehh, what? is she going to decide whether or not I stay in the course??

she: "Can you understand everything that I'm saying?"
me: "ehhm, yes"

DAAA! I'm not stupid!! I'm just from Sweden - since when's that a crime?!

So I was furious during lunch hour..

First I thought, I don't need this - I don't have to take that shit - I can drop the course like that if I want to, I can study sowing or martial arts for goodness sake!

And then another thought came to mind - I'll show her, I'll show her good!

I sure can make it in this class - everyone else (aimee, josie and also felicity) is telling me how simple this course is, so why wouldn't I be able to make it?

Surinder also said that the course continues from Food Science 1, but is completely different - so how would Food Science 1 then help me?? (and I'm pretty sure I've already studied a little bit of what they've done earlier anyway..)

Okey - enough about that - I'll let you know if there's anything else going on on that front!

Monday evening - played tennis with Alex (USA) - so much fun!!! I've missed tennis! It's been so long, but now I'll try and play more and more and more!!

Tuesday:

no lectures, except a ClinExPh-lab between 3-5pm, so before that I was at orientation for BotH, got my hours for this week, did some laundry etc, and after the lab (where we measured blood pressure, heart rate etc) I stopped by at the gym - the first time I actually have had time to go there since I joined two weeks ago...

Also tried out Crunch - a ten minute course where you do hundreds of crunches (sit ups) in ten minutes - aie! =)

That evening we played board games (including jungle speed of course) at 510 - jeez they're getting really good! =)

This reminds me so much of Lyon - the residence, playing games all night, always people around - although here theres eleven buildings only at IH - with a total of 226 residents... lot more people... and they're not all just down the stairs, so sometimes you have to walk a short distance to get to the action =)
.
I always have to - 'cause I'm in block two, and number 1-2-3 are called the Townies, and we're a little bit outsiders. These blocks are built like town houses, and I think everyone here's in their 2-3-4 year etc, so no first years anyway. So it's a bit calmer and so on - and we almost always have to go to the courtyard to hang out with the rest.
.

Wednesday:

.
Slept in - oh that's so good!
.

10-11am Sociology of Food

.
Really good lecturer - John Germov - he's also written the text book =) AND these lectures are being recorded and then you can log in to blackboard (like our kursportal) and listen to everything again - perfect!!
.
But I couldn't really focuse that much, 'cause straight after class I was off to work my first shift at BotH!
.
Oieoieoie - it reminds me a lot of Rasta - and not in a good way... But it was still fun - lots of people - I served food, did some dishes, cleaned the tables, refilled the drink fridge and got to leave one hour earlier (it calmed down so - phiu!).

.
Since it was wednesday it's students night on town - but everyone was still trying to recover from o-week (we're talking serious liver damage....) so a bunch of us ended up in Katies room watching all the funny clips on YouTube we could find - no need saying we were there most of the night =) At midnight I think, we realised that we were hungry - so we got Wade (oz) to drive us to Mackers (McDo) - that was the first time I was at mackers for almost three years... was kind of nice, but I prefer sushi =)

.
Got back around 2am...

.
another late night - it'll be hard getting into some routines here - or maybe this'll be the routine...

Thursday:

11-12am ClinExPh

And then I met up with Aimee and Josie to catch up, have a chat and borrow their books - super great!! Thanks a lot - really, I owe you!!!

Then in the afternoon the free shuttle bus to Jesmond started going so I went with Katie and did some shopping! =)

I was just going to get useful stuff (solution for my lenses, nature-medication-pills for hair, skin, nails and some bananas), but got out of there with a lot more bags and some more clothes etc =) cheap though, so I'm happy!

Friday:

(I'm speeding up a bit, 'cause this is enough detailed anyway...)

Went to the beach with Katie for a couple of hours, we splashed around in the pool when we got back and then it was time to get ready for the Commencement Dinner with IH.

oh yeah - I've no lectures on Fridays btw - so from next week (when the tutorials start and add one extra hour to my schedule every thursday) I'll start my weekend at 1pm on Thursdays =D

Commencement dinner: A fancy dinner again (although here on campus, not on a boat), with speeches, entertainment, food, drinks and dancing =) At 10.30pm three free buses came to take us into town (and yes they were actually free - we did not sneek on without paying - I'm done with all that!), so we went to Customs where the entire top floor was reserverd for us - did some more dancing, ate a lot of the finger food and simply had a good time!

And now we leave campus and move on to Customs!

Fingerfood!!!! =D

Saturday:
.
Slept like a log....
.
then I updated the blog some more - I'm slowly getting there, but hey ya! it takes a long time...
.
And I had been given some work hours for tonight - from 5pm until closing (closing is usually between midnight and 1am), so I got ready, got on my bike and went up to BotH,

only to find it completely deserted...

no-one there...

It was ten to five, so I hung around until five past - to make sure that no-one came to open up, and then I secretly cheered and went back home =) I was very, very tired... =)

In my defence, I did try to call them (well the number I had anyway), and then I tried calling until a little bit after six, in case they had given me the wrong time and they open at six - I don't know... "I donn knaw naathin' " (movie quote)

No answer, no-one called me - I had the night off =)

Sunday:

Well, here I am - I've caught up - I've arrived at today!

But I've been writing this blog now for three hours and I really need to pee...

So I'll try and get ready, play some tennis today - I have to!! =) - and then we'll see, might want to start studying tomorrow... a little bit... =)

I'll write again soon - but I think this was the most important part of Newcastle - O-week and the first week of lectures - that's why you got it all =) Might try and keep it a little bit shorter in the future - mainly the highlights =)

tc! (take care!)

C ya!!
